Hurricane Harvey Work in Houston by Sarah Ruff
I had the privilege to join our SERVPRO team to Houston after Harvey hit. My regular job I do is marketing but it was good to switch it up for a change just to see different aspects of the company and to really experience the production side of things , makes all the CE courses worth it.
On the way to the job sites we would drive and see all the losses it was truly sad and made me grateful no matter what I was dealing with at the time, just gave me a better perspective on things and how material things really don’t matter as much as I thought. I worked closely with Jackie Hall our owner here at SERVPRO. She was great has a huge and giving heart and took care of so many people as we were there, her helpful attitude always motivated me to go and help build back what was washed away.
Our team worked hard and fast we also had the privilege to work with Chris Story’s crew they are a very good team as well. We would go into developments and place equipment like fans and dehumidifiers so that way the house could dry and we would spray as well so that way there would be no microbial growth in the future and to make sure the house was ready to move forward to the next process.
As our SERVPRO team was restoring everything I would go and work with the temps that would come and help.
They were hard workers as well and we showed and trained them on how to set all our equipment up and what to spray and what to look for if there was mold or anything that was going to hinder in getting these houses back in order.
I really enjoyed working during storm because I love to help people and bring hope back to something that was destroyed. It shows that no matter what you can always rebuild and I truly believe that’s what SERVPRO represents by restoring it "Like it never even happened." It honestly gave me a lot of knowledge to see what our crews and technicians do so often! I learned so much and was forever grateful I had the opportunity to go!
